I'm just getting into the tournament side of bass fishing, in small tournaments I don't even think to do this sort of thing, but I am a competitor as well and if there was this much money on the line I have to think I would make moves like this so because I'm not a pro in your shoes, I'm going to hold judgment. I'm a big fan and I try to learn as much as I can from you. Best of luck!

Dude most of the guys that had negative comments probably only have ever fished maybe club tournaments. This is your job. When I blast off my best friends are my biggest enemies. Thats the way that works. The same deal happens at every tournament . If people get butt hurt o well! When we weigh in and get back on the bank then we’re buddy’s again. Blow it off you didn’t do anything any one else wouldn’t do.

Becker was fishing specific structure, not just fishing down the bank. If you are 100yds from that structure you are not on it, it's that simple. Fish on Jacob, and thanks for sharing your perspective!

I think the bottom line is did you break any tournament rules, if not then I think it was just strategy. If the tournament does not want you doing things like that it would be in the rules. You guys are doing this as a profession you are in it to win it, and if its within the rules, I say more power to you.

I honestly dont know what would be right or wrong here. Bass fishing is how these guys make their living. Who ever found the spot first should have it. I guess when its all said and done they may of should talked to each other first and ask each other hey can i fish this spot or that spot. But nobodys perfect we all make mistakes.

Unless Beckee was poisoned to come that way and actively trolling towards the spot it is what it is, no one owns any segment of any lake anywhere so if someone pushes up 50 feet from where I am, they will get some words, but unless I’m heading that way they have the right to fish the area🎣

I always said negativity breeds negativity!! However, it's a bittersweet moment when we lose a spot to another angler. It actually happens all the time. Only my opinion but I think it was a bad move cutting him off. Probably should have just waited off a distance to see what developed.

Any time an angler pulls up on a spot with another angler on it and doesn’t give the courtesy of even asking him if it’s ok, he’s already guilty. He’s already ashamed of what he’s doing which is why he doesn’t speak or ask. Not cool Wheeler, sorry. Same issue as Zaldain a few weeks ago. All he or you had to do is have the courtesy to at least ask before pulling in on someone and cutting them off.

Man here’s my take on it …. Anyone that’s not in the field competing against you shouldn’t speak on it in the first place. Your peers opinions are the only ones that should carry any weight at all. Bc they are the only ppl that can relate and fully understand hate transpired. Social media keyboard warriors should just enjoy the content ( or not ) period. Nothing else. But this is the day and age of the most inconsequential ppl having a voice and a say in matters that they have zero knowledge of and that is totally in no way their business. Social media is destroying the world imo. We should revert back to the days where a man has to think about the consequences of his actions and words before he speaks or does things. Bc if these ppl knew that they’d have to be ready to fight if they pissed someone off; I bet 99% of the keyboard warriors would fade into the crowd instantly and not say a word ok things that don’t concern them. But now days these folks can say the foulest shit anout someone simply bc they’re bored and they know they don’t have to face any possible consequences over what they say. 100 yards away from the one spot you wanted to fish is plenty of room. Now if you cut in front of him to fish the weed edge he was working im fromt of him thats a different story. He could have just went around you and continued to fish how he was fishing from my understanding

I understand your take on it, but I can see where it looks bad. If someone sees me catching fish at a spot that they probably didn’t know about. Then the next day they cruise up to the spot, I probably would have a conversation with them about it.

Not like you came in hot right over top of his line and blowed up the spot . At the end of the day we are men and settle things with fists, handshakes , or drinks . 🍺

Respect! For telling it how it is. Also, you did absolutely nothing wrong if this was any other sport it’s like calling a blitz or a high-pressure package. It’s called defense and defense wins championships. There’s a reason there’s 100 yard rule in this sport people that don’t fish tournaments don’t understand that you have to adapt and overcome.

I read the MLF rules today and there is no rule about cutting someone off or how close they can be to another boat. " As long as they don't impede or snag the other Fishermans line. In other words, Matt could have tied up to your boat and fished right beside you. What the rules constantly talk about is being " Professional " and Non-Confrontational or verbally confrontational. I guess it would be considered defense if another angler were to find you fishing some place and parked their boat in front of your boat and blocked you, since there is no rule in MLF as to distance as long as it's wrapped in the words " blocking " and they have no verbal communications with you, that way it could never be considered as confrontational. If you blow up on them for blocking you, then that is a rule violation. If we thought FSA changed the sport, pandori's box has just been opened on the new game of defensive blocking with no rules on the distance. Let the new games begin

Even after listening to your reasoning, I feel, you are still wrong. If someone had done that to you, you would have been furious. I think Matt Becker handled the situation well and, I think, you did not. Matt's boat was facing towards you and was going in direction you were pulling into. If Matt's boat was going the other direction from your spot, 100% pull in and fish.

And pros doing this kind of bullshit is what is causing tons of problems on lakes all over just teaching the younger generations to just pull up in front of somebody that it’s ok it was your best spot someone else found it go find something different! Obviously you didn’t win off it so there was definitely more areas with better fish 500 yards is little different than 100 yards

So you didn't see him catch any bass there and you did makes it your spot? Maybe he hit it at a bad time. Bottom line is you were already going to advance and he wasn't in the top 10. But he was at the spot before you at that time. You ran over there to mess him up and he backed down. What's the rule-2 casting distances right? He should have stayed and just fished it anyway. There is no integrity in pro fishing anymore. I have zero problems with you, I was pulling for you in the FLW cup the year you won. I just think this is a bad look for you on this one. 🤷‍♂

You KNEW shit would hit the fan when it was to be aired. You KNEW you were going to make him angry and he wouldn't go with it. You also KNEW you were cutting him off for MULTIPLE reasons. You KNOW had this been anyone else in the league do it to you, the outcome would have been VERY different. You would have been better off making a video titled, "was I wrong? If so, how do I make it right?", instead of your side. We all saw the vid, man. You should have came up to him and ASKED if it was cool, but you didn't. Lot of excuses but you simply cut Becker off intentionally. Hard to argue with the video evidence. But that is just competitive fishing nowadays. Courtesy and respect for others are going extinct with self-entitlement taking priority. Its just going to get worse as the young anglers coming into the sport are learning that this type of behavior is what is necessary to compete.

A stand-up thing would have been for you to drop out of the tournament for letting your emotions get the best of you and cut him off. The Video that showed you cutting him off, you couldn't have been more then 30 yards off him moving your way. The stand up thing would have been you pulling out of the tournament. Doesn't matter if he caught fish there the day before and he caught nothing, You were no where around when he was moving up to the spot.
